Carmen was born in Medellin, Colombia and moved to the United States when she was 8 yrs old. She lived in Chicago for 23 years and moved to Arizona in search of heat and sunshine. Carmen knew she would become a nurse after witnessing her father’s heart attack. She felt frustrated at a lack of understanding the lines on the EKG machine and the state of his overall health.
Having graduated from Nursing school, Carmen pursued a specialty in cardiology and worked in the field for eight years. She decided it was time to enhance her career and became a Family Nurse Practitioner. Her love for helping people led her to Integrated Pain Consultants where she truly loves hearing about a patient’s chronic pain and working with them to determine the underlying reason for their pain so that we can heal.
Carmen has been married for 20 yrs and has two little heeler mix puppies. She and her husband enjoy eating, trying new restaurants, traveling, and spending time with their family.
Sandy received her undergraduate degree from Alfred University in NY, followed by her Masters in Nursing and Nurse Practitioner degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1992. She has been accredited through the American Nurses Credentialing Center in Pain Management since 2008. She successfully completed and obtained recognition as Fellow through the Academy of Integrated Pain Management 2014.
She previously owned Arizona Pain Institute providing quality pro-active safe, effective medication management care to patients with chronic, debilitating pain. Her dedication to her patients and the advancement of the Pain Management discipline can be readily seen through her continuous efforts to maintain high standards of care and education for herself.
Sandy actively participates in numerous continuing education programs, opportunities, and speaking engagements; as well, she continues to cultivate and implement patient safety classes, teaching tools, and staff development. She has spoken at both the local and National levels educating others on issues relating to patient care safety, she is also a past member of the Arizona Board of Nursing’s Advanced Practice Committee, writing and reviewing Opinion Statements for standards of care.
When not with her patients, Sandy enjoys spending her time with family, hiking, reading, gardening and trying new recipes.
Sarah earned her MSN from the University of Cincinnati and began her career as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the Presidio of Monterey Army Health Clinic. Here, Sarah found her passion for helping patients suffering from both acute and chronic pain. She became very experienced caring for active duty military members that were expected to continue their training and helped them heal and prepare for duty. During this time, treatments were designed to be both therapeutic and restorative which allowed each person to function at a very high level given the demands of their jobs.
Sarah firmly believes that each patient has a different story that is invaluable to their experience as a patient. She loves spending time with her patients to find a comprehensive care plan that can help each have a better quality of life. Sarah believes that interventions are key to guiding people to a path where their lives are more comfortable and enjoyable.
Before joining Integrated Pain Consultants, Sarah volunteered as an FNP at Brian Allgood Army Community Hospital in Seoul, South Korea. She loves spending her free time with her two children, reading, and enjoying the beauty that Arizona has to offer. Additionally, Sarah enjoys hiking and writing in her spare time.
Shaun Hampton received his MSN from the University Mary Hardin-Baylor and graduated with the highest honors. Having grown up in Texas, Shaun moved to Arizona over two years ago and is enjoying his time exploring the many outdoor activities Arizona has to offer.
With a background in emergency medicine, Shaun’s passion resides in teaching patients and educating them on the many options to prevent injury and pain. Moreover, Shaun feels exercise and staying active is a significant factor in overall health maintenance.
When not working, Shaun loves to be outdoors, hiking mountains, and has a passion for fitness and training. He also volunteers at animal shelters in his free time.
Nichole received her MSN, followed by a DNP from Grand Canyon University. She has been working in pain management for over 10 years. Nichole truly desires to help those patients suffering from acute and chronic pain by actively listening to their needs. She works with each patient to provide an individualized treatment plan.
Nichole has shown her dedication to pain management by becoming certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Pain Management. She is on the ANCC Pain Management Content Expert Panel and has written a few peer-reviewed articles focused on pain management for nursing journals.
Nichole loves playing tennis, hiking, gardening, and traveling to new destinations during her time off. She also volunteers with the American Red Cross.
Matt Rhodes FNP-BC is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with additional board certifications in pain management and emergency nursing. He is a graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center and the University of Cincinnati.
Prior to becoming a family Nurse Practitioner, Matt was an emergency nurse at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, a level one trauma center in Los Angeles. As a nurse practitioner, he has more than ten years’ experience in pain management and holds the designation of Advanced Practice Pain Management Nurse, the highest certification in pain management available to nurse practitioners. Matt has also completed additional training in the treatment of opioid use disorder and holds a waiver to provide Medication Assisted Treatment which allows him to prescribe buprenorphine products for opioid dependence.
Matt Rhodes FNP-BC provides individualized, evidenced-based pain management and addiction services. He believes that self-management is essential to successful management of any chronic condition and encourages a multi-modal and multi-disciplinary approach. He is an advocate for homeless youth and volunteerism and is a former appointee to the Human Relations Task Force and current member of the Advanced Practice Committee of the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
